Happy New Year everyone! Hopefully, the new year is treating you well.
Unfortunately, I have neglected this newsletter for the past couple of months, but I promise I wasn’t lollygagging.
For starters, I finally graduated college with a Bachelor's degree. I’ve been looking forward to graduating for so long. I don’t think it has set in yet, to be honest.
I was also able to graduate summa cum laude and I earned a medal for academic excellence.
As arbitrary as these accolades may be in the grand scheme of things, I see them as reminders of how hard I worked for my degree.
In addition to earning my degree, I was also working two jobs. I was a sales associate at a thrift store and staff writer/editor for my school’s newspaper. The latter is something I am extremely proud of. For the first time, I was able to get paid for writing. It wasn’t much, but it felt like a preview to a lifelong dream I’ve had.
When I got the offer from the newspaper, I was ecstatic. I’m so grateful that someone believed in me enough to give me the responsibility. It was difficult juggling school and two jobs, and there were times when I thought I couldn’t make it. But thankfully, I was able to pull through.
After graduating, I decided to take an actual break (something that is a foreign concept to me). I told myself, that after the break, I would fully dive into all the things I felt like I couldn’t do because I was in school. And of course, one of those things is this newsletter.
I started this newsletter to challenge myself as a proclaimed writer. Didn’t want to be an “aspiring writer.” If you want to call yourself anything, you have to be doing it.
Here I can talk about my interests and simply get better at writing.
But, to become a better writer, I have to write consistently. One thing the past year has taught me is that consistency will always equal results.
So, today marks the beginning of my posting on a consistent schedule. You should expect to see a new post on Thursdays. Topics will vary because now that I have all this free time, I’ll have more opportunities to try new things.
I hope that throughout my journey to become a better writer, you and I can learn something about ourselves. And maybe have a laugh or two.
See you soon ❤️
Thank you for reading.
Sincerely,
Zay
